Position Summary:

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) is responsible for supporting the mission, vision and values of Genghis Grill through all that he/she does in their role every day. The AGM will work towards accomplishing stated goals and objectives to achieve desired results while focusing on the long-term profitability of the company while developing restaurant staff. The AGM is responsible for the overall operation of the restaurant as part of the management team. The AGM ensures all guests are provided with prompt and friendly service according to our Genghis Grill standards. The AGM oversees fellow teammates to ensure overall guest satisfaction while working under the General Manager's guidance.

Skills, Duties, & Responsibilities:

  • To directly assist the General Manger in meeting or exceed established sales, revenue and profitability goals, SLEBITA movement in a position direction
  • To directly assist the General Manger to ensure the financial integrity of all P&L statements by adhering to systems that properly track expenses and revenues that are categorized, coded and posted through control processes
  • With direction received from the General Manager, assist in the management of monthly and annual sales objectives for the restaurant
  • Ensure all revenues, cash, or credit are properly deposited and accounted for and are secured into the Company's operating bank account
  • Manage internal/external communications in a timely and effective manner
  • Communicate restaurant objectives in meetings and, as required, present initiatives and objectives by speaking and guiding the team to meet established objectives
  • Initiate and execute sales building efforts and events outside of the restaurant within brand standards
  • Lead daily shift meetings and be knowledgeable of any upcoming specials, events, menu changes, weekly focuses, etc.
  • Perform opening duties such as counting of drawers and recording in the safe log, getting change from the bank when necessary, food line checks, store walk-through, food and cooler temperature logs, etc.
  • Make sure all standard operating procedures are being followed at all times
  • Work directly with vendors to ensure that the restaurant equipment is kept in satisfactory working order maintaining the highest degree of usability and cleanliness
  • Maintain safe working conditions as required by OSHA and federal, state and local governing bodies
  • Ensures maintenance of a safe and harassment free workplace
  • Communicate with managers, hourly teammates, and guests, providing positive feedback and promoting a positive image of the restaurant and good teammate morale
  • Ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of all positions at the restaurant, is proficient in performing such duties, and through instruction and supervision, trains and develops both managers and hourly teammates
  • Regularly counsels and coaches teammates, and has the authority to suspend teammates pending review of the situation by the General Manager, or discharge an teammate immediately for instances of serious misconduct as defined in the Employee Handbook
  • Along with the General Manager evaluates staff with formal evaluations
  • Leads a shift effectively and develops Operations Managers and MIT's to do the same
  • Executes effective use of the Daily Communication Log
  • Assist teammates with any guest issues; perform appropriate discounts (student, birthday/email club, police/fire/military, etc.)
  • Greet and seat guests at the front entrance, maintain appropriate wait time quotes when necessary, and plan for reservations
  • Oversee all daily, weekly, and running side work and any additional projects or responsibilities are completed in a timely fashion, update side work sheets as needed
  • Run closing reports at the end of night and update the P&L
  • Perform any additional projects or duties as assigned by the GM, assist GM with assigning and supervising projects to fellow managers, FOH & BOH teammates
  • Oversee all food and liquor purchasing and weekly inventory, food & liquor cost
  • Coordinate the maintenance of all order guides and updating of pars based on sales projections
  • Manage and create positive, working relationships with all representatives, vendors, teammates, etc
  • Oversee kitchen management; ensure the recipe book/build/cut charts our clean, organized, and being followed daily
  • Manage bar operations; proper product is in stock, all drinks are being measured appropriately with jiggers, all recipe cards are clean, organized and followed 100%
  • Maintain clean and sanitary work environment: kitchen, grill, server station, all coolers, dry storage and supplies, etc.
  • Participate in interviewing, hiring, training, developing, motivating, coaching, and counseling all hourly teammates as well as hosting food and beverage classes, complete all new hire paperwork and orientation
  • Takes quick and responsible action in solving problems and able to use reason when dealing with disciplinary issues.
  • Assists in addressing issues resulting from critical violations on Health Inspections in a timely and professional manner
  • Safeguards the Company assets, including funds, equipment, and the restaurant building taking appropriate action as and when necessary
  • Through communication with the General Manager, Regional Manager and Home Office, handles guest and teammate accidents, injuries and complaints
  • Review coding and posting of all invoices to P&L and maintaining updated, accurate food & liquor inventory sheets and pricing
  • Oversee local store marketing and partnership opportunities, help to drive sales and create brand ambassadors
  • Maintain positive teammate morale, plan holiday parties and outings
  • Assist with FOH & BOH hourly teammate schedules and labor projections
  • Responsible for end of week financial reporting and explanations of actual vs. projections
  • Regularly interviews applicants for employment, assisting in making hiring decisions for the restaurant and regularly coaches and includes other managers in the process
  • Ensures compliance with Federal, local, and state laws, company policies and procedures
  • Perform general physical activities including extended use of your arms, legs, and body; may include climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs, balancing, moving, and bending.

The Assistant General Manager acts within Company policy and applicable federal, state and local legislation to do whatever is necessary to carry out the mission of the Company; however, without the approval of the Regional Director may not:

  • Neither commits the Company to any budgeted expenditure in excess of $500 nor sign any lease contracts or legal agreement
  • Sign any contract or legally binding agreement including, but not limited to, marketing ventures
  • Dispose of any capital asset
  • Revise the organizational structure of any department/area
  • Enter into a relationship with any employee, which may have or appear to have an adverse effect upon his/her, ability to carry out his/her responsibilities


  • A High School Diploma
  • Minimum three to five years' experience in a service-oriented, hospitality industry such as hotel, resort, restaurant, retail, entertainment venue
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Regularly works 50 hours per week
  • Must hold a valid driver's license
  • Regularly works in the kitchen leading, training, teaching and coaching culinary duties
  • Regularly works in the dining room leading, training, teaching and coaching host and service functions
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial management principals with focus on budgeting and forecasting revenue goals and objectives
  • Human Resources management skills in employee relations, recruiting and retention and employee recognition
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and determine task priorities
